NM Contemporary est heureux de presenter la première exposition personnelle de Yoonjoong Cho en Principauté.
Yoonjoong est jeune artiste ( née 1991 à Seoul), diplômée du Master of Arts en peinture au Royal College of Art de Londres cette année.
Elle a aussi gagné en 2022 le Prix de la Royal Academy de Londres livré par le British Institution Award pour la peinture lors de l'exposition traditionnelle "RCA Summer Exhibition".
Le public pourra donc découvrir une sélection des peintures à l’huile que la jeune artiste a réalisé pendant sa permanence au RCA de Londres.
Yoonjoong Cho entraîne le spectateur dans un monde onirique où la nature et les objets urbains prennent vie et des formes inattendues. La peinture vibrante nourrit un nouveau lien entre l'observateur et l'œuvre, évoquant un monde onirique et profond mais aussi ironique et poétique.
Elle écrit à propos de son travail :
“J'ai vécu presque toute ma vie dans la grande ville. Vivant en ville, je peigne ce que je ressens dans ma quotidienneté. En particulier, je m'intéresse à l'observation des objets urbains et j'aime passer du temps avec eux. Les petites plantes de mes tableaux symbolisent les citadins. Souvent, les gens ne peuvent pas résister à l’immense capital et au pouvoir de la ville, alors ils essaient de modifier ou de contrôler leurs propres paroles et comportements. Parfois, le processus de changement est si soudain que nous rencontrons d’étranges résultats inattendus. Néanmoins, j’aime découvrir ces choses étranges et inconnues. Alors que je continue à vivre en ville, je rencontre souvent des êtres qui vivent des expériences similaires avec moi".

Yoonjoong is a young artist (born 1991 in Seoul), who graduated from the Master of Arts in painting at the Royal College of Art, London this year. In 2022, she also won the Royal Academy of London Prize for painting delivered by the British Institution Award during the traditional "RCA Summer Exhibition".
The public will discover a selection of oil paintings that the young artist created during her stay at the RCA in London. Yoonjoong Cho takes the viewer into a dreamlike world where nature and urban objects come to life and take unexpected forms. The vibrant painting nourishes a new link between the observer and the work, evoking a dreamlike and deep world but also ironic and poetic.
Here her statement:
“I have lived almost my entire life in the big city. Living in the city, I depict what I feel in my own daily moments. In particular, I am interested in observing urban objects and enjoy spending time with them. The small plants in my paintings symbolize city dwellers. People often cannot resist the huge capital and power of the city, so, they try to modify or control their own words and behaviors. Sometimes the process of change is so sudden that we somehow encounter strange unexpected results. Nevertheless, I enjoy finding those strange and unfamiliar things. As I continue to live in the city, I often encounter beings that have similar experiences with me.”
